Sound familiar?

Cloud AI charges you three times over

01

With your money

Subscription upon subscription: transcription, translation, voice and an assistant — each with its own bill and limits.

02

With your data

Meetings, interviews and book drafts leave for other people’s servers and live there under other people’s rules.

03

With lock-in

No internet means no work. When prices or rules change, you are the last to know.

How it works

Your Mac already has an
AI computer inside. Switch it on.

Apple Silicon runs neural networks itself: transcription, translation, speech synthesis. PhraseFold puts the models on your disk and then works on your processor — there are no minute counters and no request limits here.

01

Download and install

53 MB, Developer ID signed, notarized by Apple.

02

Pick your models

The app suggests ones that fit your Mac — you decide what to install.

03

Work

Transcription, translation and voice then run without the internet.

Screens

An interface you understand from the first screen

PhraseFold is working
PhraseFold assistant screen — “How can I help?”
One command runs the chain: recording → speakers and timestamps → meeting notes → translation → finished SRT and TXT files.

From source to result

Say it in words — the assistant does the rest

An assistant that acts, not just advises

“Transcribe the stand-up, translate it and build subtitles” — one phrase starts the whole chain. Progress stays visible in chat and the finished files land in your library.

See every feature in detail
01

Speech and media → accurate text

Files, links, channels, playlists and batches become transcripts with speaker labels and timestamps; Listen Mode writes live audio as text.

02

Translation and localisation

Translate phrases, documents, books and SRT while keeping structure; use floating subtitles or create an experimental dubbed track.

03

Understand your own material

Turn meetings into notes and action items, ask questions about recordings and documents, and find material by meaning in the library.

04

Automate work on your Mac

Action chains, watched folders, files and tables, dictation in any app and read-aloud remove repetitive work.

The Models and quality screen — local models and performance settings

Who it is for

Four workflows where PhraseFold gives time back

01

Meetings and interviews

Recording → speaker-labelled text → decisions, actions and notes you can verify against the source.

02

Video and podcasts

File or link → transcript → translation → SRT, floating subtitles or an audio track.

03

Study and research

Books and documents → translation, questions over your material, semantic search and read-aloud.

04

Everyday Mac work

Dictation, folders, tables and multi-step actions run locally from a plain-language command.

The essentials

Answers before you download

What can PhraseFold do?
It accepts voice, audio, video, links, documents and folders, then returns transcripts, translations, subtitles, meeting notes, answers over your material, spoken audio and finished files.
Does PhraseFold work offline?
Yes. Once models are installed, speech recognition, translation, the assistant and voices run on your Mac. Network access is used for model downloads, link imports, updates and web search only when you enable it.
Which files and languages are supported?
Use audio or video from disk or a link, TXT and SRT, plus DOCX, PDF and EPUB documents. Transcription supports 25 languages and translation supports 15; the full list is below.
How do Free, PhraseFold and Studio differ?
Free includes dictation, local file transcription and phrase translation. PhraseFold unlocks every feature plus one year of updates. Studio has the same complete feature set and all future updates forever.

Privacy

Your recordings stay on your Mac.
So does the intelligence.

Privacy here is not a checkbox in settings but how the program is built. Recordings, transcripts and files are never sent anywhere — any network monitor will show it.

01

Your history stays local

Chats, transcripts and translations live only on this Mac and are never uploaded.

02

Network access — only when you ask

Models, link imports and update checks happen only when you ask. Web search is off by default. The one exception: once a day the app asks GitHub whether a newer link-downloader has shipped.

03

No account

No sign-up, no profile. The key arrives by e-mail and is activated in the app.

PRICE AND EDITIONS

Which languages does it work in?

Transcription — 25 languages: English, Russian, Spanish, German, French, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Polish, Ukrainian, Turkish, Czech, Slovak, Hungarian, Romanian, Swedish, Danish, Norwegian, Finnish, Croatian, Bulgarian, Greek, Lithuanian, Latvian and Estonian. Translation — 15 languages: English, Russian, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Polish, Turkish, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Ukrainian and Arabic.

For comparison: three typical cloud services cost about $60 a month — $2,160 over three years. Stop paying and the access, the files and the history are gone.

EVERY FEATURE, IN DETAIL

What PhraseFold does

Tier by tier: what is free, and what the paid licence adds. Tap any row to expand it — what it does, how it behaves in practice, and where the limit is.

Open the complete feature and edition reference →

Dictation anywhereFreeHold a key, speak — the text lands wherever your cursor is

Where to find it:Right toolbar → Dictate; the hotkey works over any app

Works on top of any app: mail, notes, chat, a search field. While the key is held the app listens to the microphone; release it and the finished text is inserted into the active field.

  • Punctuation is added for you and filler words are cleaned out.
  • Recognition runs on your Mac — the recording is never sent anywhere.
  • No time limit and no minute counter.
You will need to allow Input Monitoring once in System Settings — without it macOS will not let the app type for you.
TranscriptionFreePaid — links and batchesMeetings, interviews, podcasts and video into accurate text with timestamps

Where to find it:Home → Transcribe; links and the queue live on the same screen

Drop a file in — the app recognises the speech and files the result in your library: text, timestamps, export to TXT and SRT. The free tier works with files already on your computer.

  • Paid editions: a link instead of a file — YouTube and other sites; the app fetches and transcribes it.
  • Paid editions: a batch of files in one queue — walk away, come back to finished text.
  • Paid editions: speaker separation — the text shows who is talking.
Speed depends on your Mac and the recording: on Apple Silicon transcription runs faster than real time, but an hour of audio is not instant. AI output is worth re-reading.
TranslationPhrases — all tiersPaid — documents and booksFrom a single phrase to a whole book — with the document's layout intact

Where to find it:Home → Translate → Text or File

Short fragments are translated on the spot, on device. PhraseFold and Studio add whole documents: the file keeps its structure — headings, lists, markup — and comes back in the same format.

  • Document formats: DOCX, PDF, EPUB, plus SRT subtitles.
  • A book can be translated chapter by chapter and continued later — progress is kept.
  • The translation can be reviewed and corrected before it is saved.
Machine translation is a professional-grade draft, not a certified document. Legal and medical text needs a human check.
Listen Mode — live subtitlesPaidHears any sound on your Mac — a call, a video, a podcast — and writes it as it goes

Where to find it:Right toolbar → Listen

The app takes the system's own audio rather than the microphone: whatever plays on the Mac becomes running text. Useful on a call in a second language, in a lecture, or when you need the gist of a video fast.

  • The text can run with live translation.
  • When you stop, the session stays in your library like any transcript.
macOS will ask permission to record system audio. A live pass is inherently less accurate than transcribing a file — it cannot re-listen to a phrase.
Meeting briefsPaidAn hour of talk becomes a short brief: what was agreed and what to do

Where to find it:Library → open a recording → Brief

On top of a meeting transcript the app builds a brief: the main topics, decisions and tasks. The full text stays beside it, so the summary can always be checked against what was actually said.

  • Works with a recorded meeting and with a Listen Mode session.
  • The brief is stored with the transcript — on this Mac only.
A brief is an assistant, not minutes: read it before sending it to the participants.
Video commentsPaidThe discussion under a video is saved next to its transcript

Where to find it:From a link → Video → Comments

Along with a video's text the app can save its comments as a separate file. Useful when the discussion carries more than the video does: corrections, links, reactions.

  • Comments are taken for the one video, not the whole playlist.
  • The count can be capped — no need to pull tens of thousands.
An assistant for your own materialPaidSay it in words — the assistant does it: transcribes, translates, handles files

Where to find it:Home → Assistant

One sentence starts the whole chain: "transcribe the standup, translate it to English and build subtitles". Progress shows in the chat, results land in the library. The assistant answers from your material and can read its answer aloud.

  • Works with folders and files: read, process, save the result.
  • The language model runs on your Mac — the conversation stays off the network.
  • It can be called by voice and answer out loud — handy when your hands are busy.
A local model is not the largest model in the world: it covers everyday work on your own material but will not replace cloud AI at everything. Web search is off by default and you turn it on.
Whole channels and playlistsPaidOne channel link becomes a queue of every episode, resumable

Where to find it:From a link → Channel or playlist

Give a link to a channel, a playlist or a podcast feed — the app lists the episodes and transcribes them one after another into a single folder in your library.

  • An interrupted queue can be resumed: finished episodes are not redone.
  • You see what is done, what is running and what failed, per episode.
  • You can subscribe to a channel so new episodes are picked up.
A hundred episodes means hours of your Mac's time and tens of gigabytes of temporary files. Private and removed videos cannot be downloaded.
DubbingPaidexperimentalVoice a translated transcript — on device

Where to find it:Subtitles → Dubbing

Translated text can be spoken by a synthesised voice into an audio track. The feature is labelled experimental honestly: it works, but the quality depends on the material and the language.

This is not studio dubbing with lip sync: phrase lengths can drift from the original.
What goes over the network, and whenAll tiersThe complete list of network actions — instead of vague privacy talk

Where to find it:Settings → Privacy and network

Recordings, transcripts, translations and history stay on this Mac. The app goes online in exactly these cases:

  • The first model install — they have to be downloaded once.
  • Importing a link — the video or audio itself is fetched from the site.
  • The assistant's web search — off by default, switched on by you.
  • Checking for app updates.
  • If you chose an external model server yourself — the text goes to it.
No account is needed: the app does not know who you are. The beta keeps a technical log of installs and errors — it stays on your Mac, is visible in Settings and switches off with one toggle.
What gets downloaded at installAll tiersThe app is 53 MB, but the models are gigabytes — and you choose which

Where to find it:Settings → Models

On first launch the app looks at your Mac — chip, memory, free disk — and proposes a set of models to match. Nothing downloads until you agree; the list and the total size are shown first.

  • Speech recognition is always needed; the assistant and the voice are optional.
  • Any part can be declined and installed later.
  • Russia and the CIS have their own download mirror — on a throttled connection that matters.
The full set with the assistant and the voice is gigabytes on disk. If space is tight, start with speech recognition.
Licence, updates and devicesAll tiersHow the key works, what the update year covers, and how many Macs it allows

Where to find it:Settings → Licence and updates

After payment the key arrives by e-mail and is pasted into Settings. It is verified on device by digital signature — the app needs no activation server and tells nobody that you launched it.

  • A year of updates is included: "Check for updates" brings the versions released within that year.
  • After the year the purchased version keeps working indefinitely — it simply stops updating.
  • The licence covers two Macs belonging to one owner.
The two-device limit is contractual: the app deliberately does not track where you run it and is not tied to your hardware.

Your Mac is smarter
than you think.
